John Andrew Frederick at Stories

Stories

Los Angeles, CA 90026

I am crushing on Stories, the new bookstore in my hood. Liz & Claudia opened it up a few months back and it is a super welcome addition to our little strip of Sunset Blvd.

I am committed to indie bookstores (despite the convenience/curse of Amazon one-click ordering). And this is a good one. They offer free wifi, a nice little cafe in the back with food and really lovely coffee, the provenance of which I know not, shame on me.

There is seating in the front window providing excellent people watching, and more private cafe seating in the back. There is also a charming al fresco patio on the alley. In between it is all books, new and used. I love the balance of merchandise.

I picked up a couple items for my lovely friend Carrie when I was at Stories the other night listening to John read from his novel, The Knucklehead Chronicles.

Below is a clip of John entertaining us. Please excuse the fact that he defies the laws of gravity. Word on the street is, publish a novel and you get to choose which rules of physics apply to you. Seems like an entertaining side benefit. *sharpens pencils*

Some of his students look on with rapt adoration. I think all his friends were standing in the back trying not to heckle.

The above is an art piece hanging at the front of Stories. I love it. Love.

Cute bookstore ... love the Southwest touches and the beams and the coziness of the bookstore.
